We win an award

We were delighted when we heard we had been nominated in the 'Best New Business' category in the Didcot First Business and Community Awards. We then completed an information sheet and heard in October that we had been shortlisted by judges and were down to the final three. This meant that we got invited to a gala evening with all the other shortlisted businesses and organisations last Friday.

This was a good chance to change out of our usual farming/ cheesemaking clothes and leave the overalls and hairnets behind for the evening. We were really pleased to have got as far as we did but were not expecting to win, so it was a bit of a shock when our names were called out as winners! The judges were apparently impressed by what we had achieved since starting to sell our cheese in March, in terms of our sales and awards for the cheese. They also liked the partnership we have with Earth Trust and our involvement with events such as the Lambing Festival, where thousands of members of the public come and see the lambs, piglets and goat kids that are born in the spring and learn more about farming and food production.

The prize was £100 which we are going to spend on toys and enrichment for the goats, who are naturally curious and intelligent creatures. Apparently the judges liked this idea for how to spend our prize money too!
